The United States Department of Justice tells us that the:

Sex offender registration and notification programs are importantfor public safety purposes. Sex offender registration is a system formonitoring and tracking sex offenders following their release into thecommunity. The registration provides important information aboutconvicted sex offenders to local and federal authorities and the public,such as offender’s name, current location and past offenses. Currently,the means of public notification includes sex offender websites in allstates, the District of Columbia, and some territories. Some statesinvolve other forms of notice.

There are very few people that disagree with this system of monitoring. But is it fair?

For this week’s discussion, you are the warden of the Rassy StatePenitentiary. As warden, you have a litany of responsibilities. One suchresponsibility being the proper treatment of all inmates. In one ofyour weekly meetings with your corrections officers, you discussconcerning issues relating to inmates and officer 90210 states, “Some ofthe inmates are fighting over why murders complete their sentencing andgo free but, sex offenders complete their sentences and remainpenalized for the remainder of their life by means of a sex offenderdatabase.”

As warden, it is your job to educate your officers on how to dealwith differences of opinion that is causing interruption within theinstitution. As the Warden, how would you guide your correctionalofficers to respond to the inmate’s actions?
