Some of the takeaways I have gained in this course will be discussed as a Human Service provider. This course helped me understand that there are different leadership theories styles that an individual can choose and the more styles you can play, the more influential you are. Another fact I learned was the direct behaviors of each Theoretical Approaches to Leadership and lastly, the Path-goal theory, how they both look at the relationships between the leaders and the followers. As a human service professional it is imperative to achieve the goals and mission of the organization by using a theoretical approach.

With retention and productivity strategies becoming a key consideration for organizations everywhere, employee engagement is high on the agenda for leaders (McLaughlin & Kunk-Czaplicki, 2020). Engaged employees voluntarily invest extra time, effort, and initiative to contribute to business success. They feel a sense of purpose within their role, and bring enthusiasm, passion, and energy to the work they do. Three ways to foster leader’s engagements are, providing opportunities when employers get an opportunity to use skills and feel encouraged using those skills to progress, engagement will improve. Engagement related to motivation because it can be defined as the degree to which an employee’s feelings about their work environment. Second, the way is external motivators, like bonuses, incentives are a good way of keeping happy employees happy, or hook new talent. Monetary gains are the best motivator and enhance the engagement of the leader (Englefield, Black, Copsey & Knight, 2019). The last way to improve a leader’s engagement is to improve leadership skills. An employee will feel encouraged and engage if he or she has an exemplary example, which embodies vision. A leader needs to be smart and friendly enough to deal with every member of the team. It can help a leader to improve relationships, which involve negotiation and communication and solving problems. As a leader, they need to understand that leader work for the subordinates and it is not the other way around. A leader needs to make sure that their subordinates feel safe around him/her and the work surroundings. A leader’s responsibility is to assign tasks according to the employee’s skill and talent possessed.
