DIALOGUE
Using PowerUps as a guide, you will start by adding an initial response. The initial response is your initial thoughts to the prompts being asked so you can continue a conversation with your classmates. This has a different due date than the “overall” due date for the discussion. See the Canvas Calendar for specifics about the initial response due date and time.
For the initial response, you will contribute to the discussion by providing some background information followed up by your thoughts and opinions on the respective topic. It must be substantive and thoughtful dialogue. Use outside sources such as the news, Internet, popular media, your textbook, journal articles, etc to assist you here. Make sure to use proper APA formatting to cite your work if applicable.
Next, you will engage in dialogue with at least two classmate’s by asking questions, challenging ideas, and/or supporting his/her argument with material from the reading. Two responses is the minimum. You should engage in an on-going dialogue, even if it takes more than two responses. If a classmate or I ask you a question or challenge an idea, you need to respond. This is how we have a conversation and learn with each other.
There is not a minimum word count, however, you will need to add at least 3 – 5 sentences per PowerUp to adequately contribute to the dialogue. The on-going dialogue with classmates should, in theory, be able to continue a dialogue or conversation. Superficial dialogue such as “Good post” or “I like what you said” is not going to be appropriate for our dialogue. You must contribute much more to this discussion to earn full-credit.

Discussion board: Unit 1 Criminal Investigation. West Memphis Three.
- Before watching this film, what were your thoughts about criminal investigations in general? My initial thoughts of criminal investigations are not liable investigators. Investigators are the key to what evidence is gathered against the perpetrator of the crime that was committed. When we have investigators who drop the ball and do bad investigating, you find innocent people behind bars. How often does this happen, more than we think.#Evaluate.
- Your thoughts on this case and the investigation. : I don’t feel that any good investigating came about in this case. Doing some research it is said that the boys stated that they never even heard of the deceased boys before. In an interview, unaccompanied without a lawyer, Damien took a polygraph test. It was said that the polygraph test showed that he was not being truthful, and immediately, it was said because of this they committed the murders. Damien’s mother also made a statement that he was home with her that night talking to two girls on the phone. There is a lot of testimony that was taken place in this case that was noted but overlooked, which ultimately convicted the three of murder. The case has taken a turn and new evidence has been sought out, and for the case to be closed #Analyze
- In your opinion, what are the top three factors for successfully solving a criminal investigation? Three factors in a criminal investigation would be, to determine if a crime has been committed, to gather evidence that is key to the crime that has been committed, and to provide evidence that will support the conviction of the guilty party.
- In your opinion, what are the top three traits of a criminal investigator? Patience is number one in a criminal investigator’s position. Rushing through an investigation will lead to not enough evidence or evidence that is irrelevant to the case being worked. Being an unbiased criminal investigator is also important. If you have a biased investigator, would he/she try to collect evidence that is sufficient enough to prove that the person being charged didn’t commit the crime? Integrity, quality of being honest, and strong moral principles is also a characteristic that is a must have. #understand. (415)
