Grading will be based on the students ability to 1) identify and explain the issue(s); 2) evaluate empirical evidence and conclusions; and 3) support ones opinion. Prompt #2 – Bias
In your paper you comment on the following:
- Your opinion about the existence of unconscious/implicit and explicit bias in law enforcement and in society generally.
- What implicit bias might look like in terms of police behaviors.
- The consequences to police and/or community members of implicit biases in policing.
- What the police profession should do to reduce biased behaviors on the part of its employees.
- Specific actual policing incidents that you think may have reflected unconscious bias.
- How do society and media affect implicit bias in law enforcement? How do they affect implicit bias against officers?
You are welcome to supplement your paper with personal anecdotes, but you must include references to the module readings.
