You will sign up for your 5-minute cultural project the first
day of class. This is an all-in-Spanish presentation that requires some previous
preparation, so please plan accordingly. There are three types: a) País (refers to a
country), b) Galería de creadores (relevant people of the selected country), and c)
Internet (where you will find information about the African Diaspora in some
Spanish speaking countries. My suggestion is that you start your internet-based
research as soon as possible, outline the information, prepare a script in Spanish
and rehearse it. Some English is allowed (no more than 10% is allowed). You may
use a PowerPoint with pictures or graphics (not full sentences) to illustrate the
theme, but not to read from it. In other words, please avoid writing parts of your
presentation. A good slide would be a headline, some important keywords and one
or multiple pictures, so students would listen to you instead of reading your slide
while you speak. You must learn your own lines by heart and focus on achieving a
good level of pronunciation, but if there is something you do not remember
improvisation is also a good language strategy.
