As the current advisor to the Economics Minister of a country or as an advisor to an NGO
or international organization of your choosing (please make sure to get the entity
approved by the instructor) you are asked to prepare a policy brief (1500 words) which
lays out which development path should be taken. You need to draw on at least 6 academic
sources and need to list them at the end of each assignment.
In the brief, state which strategy you suggest and explain why you suggest this. You need
to draw on the development theories and approaches (e.g. Import Substitution
Industrialization, Export–led growth, etc.) we discussed in class. You can also use a mix
from the various approaches. You also need to lay out why you do not suggest other
approaches. Finally, anticipate 3 challenges other advisors might have against your
proposed strategy and lay out how you would counter these objections.
