Welcome to Dental Hygiene!
I have to tell you Dental Hygiene is the BEST career and I am so glad you are here with us for the next 2 years. Two years may seem like a long time but it will go fast.
Discussions are used in my class to ask questions, provide information and learn from myself and each other. Each discussion set is worth 10 points total, 5 points for Initial post and 5 points for your Reply (see Rubric for grading, just click on the three stacked dots on upper right next to the word ‘Published’, this shows the rubric).
Instructions for your Initial Discussion Post:
Your Initial post should include 3 things about yourself. Some examples of your post can be previous work experience, why you chose Dental Hygiene, pets you may have and maybe how many years of school prerequisites before you got to SWC. It can be dental-related or not, family related or not

Vanessa DaltonYesterdayAug 22 at 10:25amManage Discussion EntryHello fellow classmates, my name is Vanessa Dalton and I am very excited to be embarking on this adventure with you! First off, I just want to say I’m proud of us and I bet I am not the only one who couldn’t believe they got into the program! Whoop whoop! With that, here is a little background on me, I’m 21 years old and graduated from my high school class in 2019. Then went on to complete my AA in liberal arts of math in science this past March at MiraCosta Community College. My time at MiraCosta was longer than expected since covid hit right smack in the middle of my freshman year, but regardless I am so grateful for my time there and the guidance that their program had to give me. As I was also a part of their women’s volleyball program I will always be grateful for those involved in it and who had faith in me even on my worst days. Work-wise, I’ve worked through all of my prerequisites and will continue (well at least try) to work throughout this program. If anyone else is out there in the same boat, let’s be friends cause I’m sure there are going to be days where we just feel like it’s not possible but I have faith we’ll make it work. I work within the restaurant industry as a server at Hi/Lo in oceanside so if anyone is local come check it out, it’s right off the pier! For personal hobbies, I love the outdoors!!! Winter has become my favorite time of year as my boyfriend has taught me to snowboard over the past 3 years and I have become addicted. But we’ll see how often I get up to Big Bear and Mammoth this season. With that, I really enjoy camping and hiking, and being a Subaru mom helps me make those adventures a lot more fun. Thank you for taking the time to read a little background on me and I can’t wait to see you all on campus studying teeth!
