A. 1. What is your preferred leadership style and explain why

If you were to ask my clinical group or any of my past teachers 90% of them will tell you that I have leadership tendencies. Sometimes I come off in the leader role without knowing the full extent of my actions. I tend to catch myself expressing leadership tendencies when I need to be in the learner role at times which is a weakness of mine. But, after doing the leadership assessment I think I’m leaning to Shared (Democratic) Leadership: which is a concern for both high productivity and high morale.
In a democracy, some people fill the role of leaders and some the role of followers, but everybody has equal say in the decision-making process (Villanova University).

2. Can your leadership style change with greater experience in a leadership role? Describe how.

The goal in leadership should never be staying the same. As a leader you need the ability to grow not only within yourself but as a unit. I believe growth as a leader, changing leadership styles, and learning more is a great experience and opportunity for a leadership role.

3. Can your leadership style change according to the situation at hand? Describe the benefits
or limitations.

Not every situation will be the same or have the same outcomes. For example, there could be two different patients same age that come in for something as simple as a stubbed toe. Patient one could be discharged after being evaluated while the other one could be on blood thinners, become septic due to infection and stay in the hospital for days.

benefits to understanding the need to change is every single situation in life is different and to have to understand that change is not always a bad thing

limitations to change is at times there has to be a solid standard of care. Policy’s have to have a sense of stimulatory or the unit will crumble.

If put in the leadership role, which is a dream of mine one day, I pray I see the change and be open to new ideas and solutions.

4. What factors will determine this change?

change is dependent on a lot of factors. In my personal opinion i think change will be accommodated when policy’s change, when there is growth, new hires, new diseases, or new process.

5. Describe the positive and negative aspects of your preferred leadership style on individual
and team productivity.

the positive aspect of my leadership style is right in the middle of both groups. I don’t identify as one or the other just simply in the middle. This type of leadership has the ability to favor both sides when different topics and policy’s are brought up.

the negative aspect of my leadership style is not ever accommodating to everyone equally. Realistically, you will never please everyone, but just have to accommodate for everyone as equal and as best as you can.
