Getting Started

So much of our success rides on our ability to communicate!

And yet, how much time have you spent recently thinking about and working to improve your interpersonal communication skills?

It seems that most of the time we act as if others who try hard enough should figure out what we are thinking and feeling. Sometimes when we listen to others, we recognize what a challenge this can be. Can you remember times when people told you something that made no sense whatsoever? But then when you asked them to repeat or reword their statements, they expressed irritation? Are we willing to admit that this happens even when we are speaking? We say something that seems perfectly clear to us. Then when others do not understand, we become annoyed.

We could correct the problem, rather than complaining when others struggle. If your message is not getting through, do not raise the volume; tune the channel.

MacAdam offers sound, simple, practical ideas in this skill set. Reflect on his suggestions, so that you can employ them?
