Classmate’s Post:
After researching the different types of cells, I chose to write about cancer cells and their many characteristics and types. Cancer cells start as normal cells until mutations cause the cell to grow and divide out of control thus resulting in tumors or growths. These cells also have the ability to spread to other regions of the body. Just as there are many types of cancers there are also different types of cancer cells, all of which behave in different ways. Since cancer cells are normal cells that undergo mutations these cells can be found in any organism and any part of the body. Before the cancer is diagnosed the cells go through stages in which the cell becomes more abnormal, such as hyperplasia (enlarged) and dysplasia (growing abnormally). This process is sometimes called differentiation. Although a cancer cell can have many mutations, only a certain number of these can cause the cells to divide and grow. Driver mutations are mutations that result in the growth of cancer cells, whereas other mutations are called passenger mutations. There are many things that are unique to a cancer cell some of which are they can be immortal, can keep growing, and can also spread to other regions of the body.
