The goal of the media example assignment is to help you apply the theories and concepts from the class to the media that you consume. The examples you submit will also provide valuable points for discussion about these topics in class.

You are required to complete three media examples, for which the due dates are listed on the syllabus.

This assignment has two parts:

1. Find a piece of media content (e.g., a clip from a show, a magazine ad, a current song) that serves as an example of the concept or theory we have covered in class so far. You will need to do more than show media that may have a given effect; the example itself needs to illustrate the concept or theory.

For example, for the topic of sexual content, you might submit a YouTube clip of a TV show scene that depicts a character discussing sexual behaviors.

1. Provide a short description (a short paragraph) that explains: 1) what particular concept, theory, or effect from that week’s class the content illustrates, and 2) how this concept/theory is illustrated by the content. Point out the specific elements in the media content that show the concept.

For the above clip, you could point out specific ways the character talks about sex and the kinds of sexual stereotypes or behavioral norms this content depicts.
