Prompt B: Choose one of the persons of the Trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit). Describe how Gregory of Nazianzuss interpretation of scripture shapes his understanding of that divine person.Text: On God & Christ St. Gregory of Nazianzus
Other Notes:
7-9 (pp. 98-100)
Differentiating btwn the son as a divine being and the son as a human being
It indicates in the bible the son is equal to the father so indicating just because the father is the source doesnt indicate inferiority
There the connection of God indicates where it says father its connectingto the divine being and the relationship between them
Naturally, God is our God but that relationship is implied on the son only when the son becomes like us
10-11 (pp. 100-102)
The Holy Spirit
Where do we put the holy spirit in terms of the trinity?
The scripture doesnt say as much on the divinity of the holy spirit that he does with the son
The scripture isnt given as an abstract as an answer to all questions but a blueprint to help spearhead this journey of salvation
he then goes through passages that imply the quality of the holy spirit and the trinity
What do we do when there are some things the bible talks about more than others?
There is mention of other beings, are they just not allowed to be included? Where do the angels fit in this?
There are lots of different ways we could conceive of it, but when we attend to what the scripture says we talk about multiple kinds of knowledge but actual knowledge of God cannot be spoke about, and that more important knowledge could be the holy spirit which is why it doesnt come up often
The savior who is one of us in the son, not the holy spirit which could account for why the son is talked about more
In a sense, we all say the same thing but emphasis different aspects which is how they were able to come to a general consensus
