1. Stated Purpose: This is the purpose according to the text itself. 2. Actual purpose: This is the purpose or purposes you believe the author had in mind when he/she created the text. This is your interpretation of the writer’s focus. 3. Audience: Describe what you can infer about the author’s audience. Is an audience stated anywhere? Whom do you believe to be the intended audience for this essay? Describe the demographics of the intended audience in terms of any of the characteristics that may apply: age, gender, location, ethnicity, education level, background/experience, political views, religious beliefs. On what are you basing those assumptions?
