CLASSMATE 1 RESPONSE:
The four American Revolution principles are popular sovereignty, separation of powers, limited government, checks and balances. When It comes to sovereignty in the constitution this basically means that the people will have control of their own affairs. Separation of powers reflected in the constitution just states that one person will not be in charge of the entire country but instead divides the powers up by federal, state and local government agencies. Limited government has to do with government agencies having limited power In some of the things that they can and can not do. The constitution implements checks and balance through separation of power among the three branches. I believe the difference between a republic and a democracy would be that republican leaders who are elected make decision on the peoples behalf but democracy is the people voting to make these decisions themselves. Considering everything that has recently happened with the elections and all of the people who voted for what they believe in I do think that the current government compared to the vision that the Founding Fathers had is on the mark.
CLASSMATE 2 RESPONSE:
Four core American Revolution principles are Federalism, Limited Government, Checks and Balances, and Separation of Powers. Checks and balances are set in place to ensure that each branch of government can be in some form supervising the other, so neither branch has too much power. Separation of Powers protects us from dangers of combining all government functions in one institution. Limited Government restricts the power and authority of the government in comparison to a dictatorship or communism.
These core principles apply in our modern republic because no particular branch has more power than the next and it is based on votes that decide regulations. In a democracy the people vote for their representatives. The current US is similar to the republic of the Founding Fathers because it allows the people power to vote and decide who they will elect to represent their towns, states, and country. Also, it is necessary to convince the majority of citizens before a decision can be made on important policies. The Founding Fathers had more of a republic than a direct democracy.
