Imagining Media Literacy

The purpose of this assignment is to drive the concepts of literacy and media literacy home.

For this assignment you will need either paper and pen or an online illustration software (MS Paint or a web app (Links to an external site.))

1. Imagine what a literacy framework might look like in a physical form.
2. Now, using the stages of media literacy document, place each stage of media literacy into the framework you have illustrated. Use your imagination.
3. Next, try to think of examples of media that illustrate different stages of media literacy (for example, you cannot understand Family Guy if you do not have a mastery of satire). Place a minimum of 5 different media examples onto your framework illustration.
4. Finally, write 1-2 pages (Times New Roman, 12 pt font, double-spaced, 1″ margins) to explain why you chose the framework illustration that you did, why you placed the stages of media literacy where you did onto your framework, and why you placed your media examples where you did on your framework.
5. Submit both the illustration and the write-up.
