Homosexuality is a characteristic present within individuals that attracts to the beings sex. The history of homosexuality continues to harbor irresistible challenges and provocations (Halperin, 2002). Many people view homosexuality as a controversial topic due to the behaviors associated. Different perspectives exist based on surrounding circumstances such as societal beliefs and procreation directives. This discussion enables us to expand on our stance regarding homosexuality. The Greeks birthed the term homosexuality which is a description that means the same. This term is very common in todays society in comparison to the early years.
The earlier years conceived the behavior as a act of deviation. Many people negatively view homosexual acts based on the narrative presented in the bible. To understand why perceptions of homosexuality and social responses to it vary, we must examine evidence from a wide range of societies (Greenberg, 1990). In the past, individuals were afraid to display their homosexuality due to the fear of facing the condemning consequences. Further research on this topic revealed that homosexuals display behaviors and traits which reflect their sexual orientation.
Paraphilia is described to be sexual desires that involve susceptible activities. I believe that paraphilia is not rational based on its purpose of classifying a individual on their sexual interests. All people no matter their sexual interest, should be treated equally based on all individuals possessing the same constitutional rights. The steady rise of homosexuality awareness has increased the societal acceptance rates amongst the nation. In conclusion, homosexuality should not be categorized as a paraphilia based on the mentioned factors and circumstances.
