As a method of research, anthropologists often practice self reflection as they move through their research to acknowledge their bias, ethnocentrism, and the change in perspective. This not only is helpful in coming closer to being objective but informs us on how to take action.

The following will be a reflexive thus, inherently subjective assignment.

As you have explored and analyzed concepts such as cultural relativity, ethnocentrism, family, kinship, culture, gender, class, race/racism, economics, violence…with the lens of film, be self reflexive and think action oriented.

First: take some time to be reflexive about how has using the methods of the class changed your view of the world and or film/media. You may want to go and read through your postings for Film Responses and Field Notes. How has the material informed your knowledge and or perspective of other cultures? How has the material informed your perspective of your own culture?

Second: So what, who cares? It is one thing to have information and to learn things. It is another to recognize that shift in knowledge. However, what good is being informed if you do not apply that information? Thus, in what ways might some of the material from the course affect your behavior. Or, in what ways might this learning and or information inspire action for you? This can be simple (which is no less profound) or complex.

Either write a short (200-400 word) response or share a short video recording responding.
