Hello peers. I am a rehabilitation center nurse and have been practicing the profession for eight years. I also hold a one-year of experience in home health. Access to healthcare services for the African American population in Chicago is a crisis, making them vulnerable to a series of health problems. There is a significant discrepancy between the life expectancies of the Black and the White Chicagoans since the blacks face difficulties in accessing medical services (Monk, 2015). African-Americans are limited by several factors, including systemic racism and poverty, which generally affect their health status. The difficulties in accessing healthcare for the Black Chicagoans have led to a rise in patients suffering from chronic illnesses like diabetes and other health issues like high infant mortality rates (Chicago, Illinois (IL) profile, 2022).
