REMEMBER- The Critical/ Theoretical Analysis Essay:

• Should have an academic essay structure: Introduction, Body Paragraphs, and a Conclusion
• Should have a title- You should come up with an interesting title.
• Should be 3.5- 4.5 pages typed/ double spaced/ Times New Roman 12 font ( follow MLA formatting guidelines- see in Announcements)
• Should be analyzing 3 works in terms of 2 themes/ theories
• Should refer to at least one of the critical theories we discussed in this course and should mention at least one theorist
• Should refer to the Primary Sources/ the 3 texts you chose. It should have supporting information, quotes, examples/references from the sources considered for the
• Should also have at least 2 (max 4) Secondary Sources researched to support your claims The secondary sources may include:
  • Credible texts / electronic sources such as an article, book, journal, scholar essay, encyclopedia, (* At least 2 credible sources) * Use Google Scholar, or Academic databases of LAVC Library.

• It should use MLA format for in-text citations and a Works Cited page

Grading Rubric (50 points)

• Academic structure/Paragraph Organization – 5p
• Length (3.5 -4.5 pages and 3 X 2 ratio (3 Texts/Primary Sources x 2 Theories/ themes)-3p
• MLA Format (12 Times New Roman font, Double-spaced, correct Heading and Header (last name and page number) – 5p
• Thesis Statement (the last sentence of Intro stating your main idea/ purpose of the essay in 1 or 2 sentences)- 2p
• Introducing the Primary Sources in the Introduction (brief summary of each of the texts you are analyzing )- 5p
• Mentioning at least 1 theorist and briefly about the theory– 5p
• IN-TEXT Citations/ Quotes:

Referring to Primary sources (references or quote) 5p

A min of 2 (max. 4) Credible- Secondary sources– 5p

• Works Cited page that details the citation information of the 3 Primary Sources (provided in Files/ Final Essay) and 2-4 Secondary/ researched credible sources , plus any other researched sources quoted or referred in the essay )– Formatting of the Works Cited Page also should follow MLA Requirements ( See my Lecture notes and Videos in Announcements)- 10p
• Mechanics (grammar, spelling, punctuation)-5p
