purpose: In the beginning of the course, in the Welcome and Course Overview Module, I said that all of us would be engaged in doing something very concrete: having a conversation about ethics. This conversation by its very nature pushes us to ask difficult questions such as “what is morality good for?”; “where do our moral attitudes come from and how are they formed?” and “why should we even examine our moral values in the first place?” It also forces us to evaluate our own moral stances and those of others. As a result of critical examination and evaluation of various moral and ethical perspectives over the course of the semester, you will be prepared to fulfill the last Course Learning Objective G: “Articulate a personal set of principles for ethical reasoning, decision-making and application to real-life situations.”

Instructions: Look back to your Self-Examination journal covering the entire course, and write a short, two-page essay examining how your thoughts have changed, if they have, changed on:

  1. What set of personal ethical principles you live by and how you formed them
  2. How your ethical reasoning skills have been transformed, if at all, by your establishing a personal set of ethical principles to live by
  3. Real-life experience where you have appliedyour set of ethical principles to make sound judgments when confronted with moral dilemmas
  4. Whether or not the study of ethics and morality has value or is necessary to live the “good life,” and why?
  5. In addition, each Capstone Project essay should be at least two typed pages and contain the following:
    • Well supported arguments for all items listed above
    • Each essay should be clear and well organized with correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation
    • Use MLA guidelines for all in-text citations and reference pages

Capstone Project Format: Your paper, appropriately titled, should be between one and two typed pages, double-spaced, in 10- or 12-point type. Use one-inch margins all around. Your title should be centered on the first page, three lines below your name, and you should begin your text three lines below your title. Type your name in the upper right-hand corner of each page, and please number your pages. Please use MS Word as the word processor for this assignment.
