Session 3 Discussion

Click on the Session 3 Discussion link and create a new thread to respond to the discussion prompt. After posting your initial response, please comment on classmates’ responses. Respond by making constructive responses or by raising other questions that will promote further discussion and learning by all of us.

It is best practice to post early and continually participate throughout the session. You will be graded not only for your posting, but your participation in this discussion. Your initial post is due by Wednesday at 11:59 P.M. (MST) of the session in which the discussion is assigned. A minimum of two (2) additional response posts are due by Sunday at 11:59 P.M. (MST). These are minimum requirements. Be sure to follow any additional guidelines posted by the instructor for the course in regards to discussions.

Review the rubric available in Due Dates and Grades for specific grading criteria.

Discussion Prompt: Relational Conflict

Jesus had many friends in His life and was even betrayed by one of His closest disciples. You can imagine the conflict He encountered all around Him. Building friendships takes time and effort. Within that time and effort, we tend to encounter conflict as differences arise among us.

Read the stories in Matthew 20:20-28 and John 8:1-11.

Jesus indeed dealt with a lot of conflict around Him.

  • Looking at these two examples of conflict and interactions in the Bible, put yourself into these situations. Decide whether you would be a bystander watching, one of the disciples, a teacher of the law, a Pharisee, the woman that was caught, the man she had been with, the mother of the disciples, Jesus, or anyone else.
  • Discuss at least two different areas of conflict that the individual may have experienced, feelings s/he may have had, and how s/he responded. Using specific examples from the text, Scripture, and personal experience, share different options that the person could have used, and explore possible results, had s/he responded differently.

After your initial post, respond to further questions from the instructor and share the potential response options you have experienced or discovered with at least two other classmates, as it relates to their initial posts. Use your interactions in this discussion to strengthen the skills of resolution you are learning, as you look at how you responded, how others responded and other potential resolutions.

You will need to post first before you can view your peers’ postings– please write your initial post on a separate document (such as a Microsoft Word document) then copy/paste your responses to the discussion prompts onto the forum– this way you will have your initial post just in case you experience technical issues.
