Answer:

1. What are the features of the underworld that are described in these passages?
2. In the case of the Aeneid and the Odyssey, how do the souls that are met describe what existence is like there?
3. Is the ancient underworld, as described in these texts, the sort of place that you would expect? Why do you think these visions are so bleak?
