This is a Discussion post from a student. All I need to do is to give a response base on this post. 150 words is good enough.
In Chapter 4 we learn about how we communicate emotions and how we also give non-verbal communications when put in different situations. One example of this is when I’m out anywhere buying something and I’m standing in line with enough personal space from the person in front of me and someone just comes and is literally in my personal space like if we knew each other, that really bothers me and I try to make this know by giving them non-verbal communications, like starring at them with an eyebrow raised or moving away from them and they just don’t get the message and move up again closer to me. In the video “Ted Talks: Your Body Language Shapes Who You Are” the speaker talks about how we use non-verbal communications everyday, not only to judge people but also ourselves. She shows how when someone feels powerful/dominant they spread out space and they raise their hand high but someone who doesn’t feel powerful they do the opposite and they get small. She also talks about that what if someone who doesn’t feel powerful acts powerful for a certain amount of time will that change their minds? She also talks about how by power posing for a few minutes helps the person be more confident. This video really opened my easy how body language has so much more meaning. How the way a person stands can say how powerful or powerless they feel.
